Security Flashlights

i went to see night at the museum. only because pan's labyrinth was full. possibly not a great idea while in the middle of a water fast but i went anyway. it's not too bad, Ben Stiller carries a flashlight. there is a movie in there too, but he carries a flashlight around with him in the museum to point at moving t-rexes and stuff. what kind of flashlight was it? it looks to be a 3d maglite. the 3d part refers to the number and size of battery cells in this particular torch. is this a good thing? well, yes and no. for light output and runtime it's not good. there are better led torches out there that are smaller and can give you more light. although for a security guard that is not the only concern. would you feel more secure with a small light if an armed assailant was running at you shrieking? in fact there are even 4d, 5d, and 6d maglites available, almost resembling aluminium baseball bats. a security guard told me that's why he owned one (he uses to be a bouncer too)
not pocket friendly but it has it's uses i suppose. :D

Resolutions are for Wimps!

start of a brand new year and the start of people making promises to themselves. have you made any promises to yourself? i'm not really the type to make resolutions, but i suppose by vocalising your intentions to other people you are more likely to accomplish them.

according to answers.com a resolution is:

  1. The state or quality of being resolute; firm determination.
  2. A resolving to do something.
  3. A course of action determined or decided on.
  4. ...

all too often we hear that most resolutions that are made on the 1st of the year are broken the very next day on the 2nd. how resolute are people when they are resolving their resolutions? if you give up a couple of days into the new year you obviously weren't very resolved, were you now?

instead of thinking: resolutions, think: goals.
set goals for yourself, be they short term, mid term or long term goals. if they are long term goals, and i mean way off in the future long term, you could break that down in to a series of smaller goals designed to step-stone your way to the larger goal.

examples of goals you can use:
i will carry a flashlight on my person at all times.
i will replace more bulbs at home with energy saving versions.
i will get another torch for my collection.
etc...

my own goals this year? well when i blog tagged 5 other people i learned that Johan had done a 5 day water fast. after being fascinated and doing a little reading i will do a water fast this year too.
also, i plan to scare myself a little more too. Bulbgirl suggested that i should hire someone to attack me when i least expect it, just like Cato from the pink panther movies.

...not really the kind of scaring myself i had in mind.

Seeing Lights

usually people just see lights when they drink too much. They don't normally light themselves up! i hope this holiday season, if you have been drinking, you have been doing so responsibly.
happy new year!

Not Very Bright

when i tagged 5 people in my last post maybe i was a jinx? Tyler's blog went kaput and he lost 6 months of posts. his comments had been going screwy for a while, but his MySQL database crashed and hours and hours of effort vanished.

also i wrongly tagged one of the blog urls. Brian Turner has moved his blog from Platinax.co.uk to ibrian.co.uk
ibrian is a take on the i,robot name because Brian is into all things sci-fi.

Worldcon 2005 - (c)The Scotsman newspaper

i love this picture of Mr Turner at worldcon 2005 and I'm tagging Brian individually. don't know if that's in the blog tag rules, but he's a lot brighter than i am so ask him.

one more thing...

merry christmas! :)
