Can you DIGG it?

on DIGG there seems to have been much interest in a DIY flashlight article.

some people seem to find it ridiculous, turning a flashlight into a,
well, a flashlight.

in an emergency LEDs win out over incandescents, lasting longer and more robust.
how many times have you dropped a torch
and the bulb conks out, just when you need it most.

this usually happens in movies just before the aliens start to swarm.
you're unlikely to ever be in the same situation a la pitchblack,
but its handy to have an LED
flashlight that you know will work when you switch it on
without worrying about bulb life.

Green Cast

bulbgirl has a green cast.

i don't mean that she has a veridian skin tone, but that her arm is in plaster.
did you know that you can choose different colours for your plaster cast now?
her suspected broken wrist is a fracture after all. apparently fractures can be
more painful than actual breaks.

talking of green casts, white LEDs can have a green cast to them (unsubtle link fozzie bear
would have been proud of).
some flashlight enthusiasts refer to this as "rotten cat urine green".

instead of LEDs with green casts, bulbboy suggests that cast (green or otherwise)
should come with LEDs embedded in them. a portion of NHS money should be put towards helping those with a plaster cast to see in the dark better, in case of further damage.

Staved Thumb?

bulbgirl fell down. she slipped.
it was dark and the walkway was slippy.
the area around her thumb is now a lovely shade of purple.
excess grit caused her to slip in this dark area.

what on earth was she doing going in to an area where it is dark and slippy? well it was just a little saunter down to the local shops.
the sodium street lighting was not working as normal turning a normally
familiar area into a treacherous area.

now bulbgirl is nursing her hand and wrist, inside a bandage, not knowing yet if she has any broken or fractured bones.

could this have been avoided? yes. the answer is EDC.
EDC is short for Every Day Carry. carry what every day?
a flashlight of course.

"why do you have a torch with you, bulbboy?"
people think i'm crazy carrying a flashlight most of the time.
my answer is always "you never know when the lights are going to go out," because you never know when the lights are going to go out.

here at bulbboy.co.uk, i always recommend attaching a small LED torch to your keychain. buy lots of them, give them to your friends. they're cheap and the batteries last for ages.

they might just save you breaking some bones.

Perfectly Balanced

bulbboy has been a little off balance lately.
not in an unhinged kind of way but quite literally.
years of chiropractic treatment did nothing to help, but
a visit to an osteopath did the trick.

he referred me to a podiatrist, and an insole has been put into my left shoe.
being balanced feels very strange but also very good.
i never knew standing up could fill me with joy.

the osteopath in question is David Drysdale of napier's herbal dispensary,
